What goes into a cricket forecast
- Format first
- A T20 and a 50-over match reward different things, so each format is forecast on its own terms rather than one approach stretched across both.
- Team strength and recent results
- How each side has performed over time, with recent matches counting for more.
- The ground
- Some venues produce big totals and some do not. What a typical score looks like at each stage of an innings is part of the read.
- The toss
- Choosing to bat or bowl can matter, depending on the format and the conditions. Once the toss is known, it becomes part of the forecast.
- The state of play
- During the match the forecast follows runs, wickets in hand and overs left and, in a chase, the target and the rate needed to reach it.
What you can see for a match
- Match winner
- The chance of each side winning, before the toss and throughout the match.
- Innings totals
- A projected score for the batting side, and how likely it is to finish above or below a given total.
- Players
- Batting and bowling projections for players in the match, where there is enough history on them to say something useful.
- Live updates
- The numbers refresh as the innings unfolds, so you can see how much a wicket or a big over has changed the picture.
How to read a cricket probability
Cricket probabilities swing harder than football ones because a single over can change a match. In a T20 chase, two quick wickets can turn a favourite into an underdog inside ten balls. That is not the forecast being wrong; it is the match changing.
Before the toss, read the number as a starting point. The moments that tell you most are the toss, the end of the powerplay, the halfway point of a chase and the final overs.
A side with a 35% chance is not losing. From that position it wins roughly one match in three.
Labels: how much weight a number can carry
Every forecast in Oddzy carries a plain label. A Validated pick is an official Oddzy pick: it comes from a kind of forecast that has been tested against past results and held up. A Tested model forecast has been through that testing but is not an official pick. A Model estimate is Oddzy's current best read without that level of testing behind it.
Official picks are fixed before the start and graded against the final result once it is in. Nothing is changed after the fact.
What Oddzy is not
Oddzy is a sports analysis and information service for adults aged 18 and over. It does not accept wagers, take deposits, pay out prizes or link to betting operators, and a forecast is never a promise about a result.
Cricket prediction questions
How does Oddzy predict cricket matches?
Oddzy forecasts each format separately. Before play it uses team strength, recent results, the ground and the toss; during the match it follows runs, wickets in hand, overs left and the target to keep the chance of winning up to date.
Which cricket formats does Oddzy cover?
T20 and one-day international (ODI) cricket. The app lists every match it covers.
Why does the win probability change so much during a match?
Because cricket matches turn quickly. A cluster of wickets or one expensive over can change who is ahead, and the forecast follows the match rather than sticking to the pre-match view.
Is Oddzy a betting app?
No. Oddzy is a sports analysis and information service for adults aged 18 and over. It does not accept wagers, take deposits, pay out prizes or link to betting operators.
